Baby Babe Ruth
Ravelry Pattern Page ~ $4.99 Buy Now ~ View Entire Collection
The Baby Ruth candy bar was not named after baseball great Babe Ruth, but Present Grover Cleveland’s daughter Ruth. Another fun baseball legend? The New York Yankees were the first team to put pinstripes on their uniforms in order to make Babe Ruth look slimmer. Pinstripes were first found on baseball uniforms in 1907, and started being worn by the Yankees in 1918, a couple of years before Ruth started playing for them. But those measly facts aren’t keeping me from honoring Babe Ruth in all his pinstriped glory with this baby onesie pattern.

TINY Baby Onesie!
NOTES Start by working toe up baby knee socks, then switch to stranded pinstripes for the remainder of the body. A space is left for the button band, and sts are picked up for the button band at the end. Sleeves are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round. Instructions are given to work the pattern over 3 DPNs. If using magic loop, use stitch markers to separate stitches instead.

The Georgia Peach
Ravelry Pattern Page ~ $4.99 Buy Now ~ View Entire Collection
Ty Cobb, one of baseball’s favorite surly characters and one of the best players in Detroit Tigers history, was nicknamed The Georgia Peach – ironically, of course. Growing up a Tigers fan my brain was filled with Ty Cobb lore early; like how he use to sharpen his cleats so players would learn to get out of his way when he was sliding into second base. I know now there was more of a sinister side to this baseball great, but his faults add depth to his character and interest to his story; strong and uncompromising, hard but loved and respected, born with nothing, and surviving and succeeding with only willpower and talent. Ty Cobb will always be my favorite Tiger and one of my favorite baseball players because of and despite it all.

Bulky Knit LOVE!
The Georgia Peach is a bulky weight version of the baseball sweater worn by players 100 years ago. Unusual button placement make it unique and keep you very warm while playing an early season baseball game. Customize it to your team’s colors to show your team spirit while waiting for baseball season to start up again all winter long.

Neckline Buttoned Up
NOTES Worked from the bottom up, stitches are held as fronts and backs are completed. Stitches are picked up around armholes and sleeves are worked in the round to the wrist. Stitches are picked up for the collar and short rows are worked for shaping. Stitches are picked up for button bands, and contrasting color inner side panels are seamed to the inside of the sweater.

Unusual Button Placement and Contrasting Color Inside Panels

Knickerbocker Tee
Ravelry Pattern Page ~ $4.99 Buy Now ~ View Entire Collection
The New York Knickerbockers were one of the first ever baseball teams, and were the first team to wear uniforms, which back then were glorified pajamas and nothing like the uniforms we see players wearing today. Somewhere along the way baseball merchandizing took off, and now female sports fans are in a world of bedazzled pink crop tanks and short shorts. The Knickerbocker Tee is a feminine play on the men’s baseball tees – still sporty, but with a pretty boat neck collar and flattering hem detail. Choose your team’s colors, or your favorite colors, and sport this cute tee everywhere.

Fun Sleeve Stripes and Bottom Shaping!
NOTES The front and back short row shaping of the tee is worked, then sides are joined and the body of the top is worked in the round from the bottom up. Stitches are held while front is finished, then picked back up for back. Sleeves are worked in the round, then flat for raglan shaping, and seamed in. Held neckline stitches are worked for the collar.
