Spring Class Schedule: We’ve Got a New Space!

We’ve Got a New Space!

I’m so happy to announce that The Sweatshop of Love classes have found a home! We’re opening The Sweatshop of Love Studio in Albany Park. This very humble space will be the new home to all of our classes. It’s a little off the beaten path at 3547 W Montrose, but that is allowing us to keep our class prices accessible to all. With easy street parking, coffee, tea, and snacks provided, and no weirdo gawkers or creepers lurking over our shoulders, we hope you are as excited about this new venture as we are!

I’m also so happy to announce that we’ve added a new teacher to our rotation! Leah Coccari-Swift, a knitwear designer and teacher, learned to knit from her grandma at age 4 and has been making things obsessively ever since. She majored in Studio Art (drawing/painting) at Beloit College and predictably worked many odd jobs before finding she could be a professional knit/crochet designer and teacher. She can usually be found tangled up in yarn, cooking and eating, walking outside, or playing with other people’s dogs, and at www.rubysubmarine.com.

So along with Laura McDougal and I, Leah helps bring more advanced classes to the schedule. You’ll see below that we’ve got a TON to offer this Spring Schedule, including project and technique classes, as well as beginner classes in four different crafts!

To sign up or to ask any questions please email allyson@thesweatshopoflove.com.

We can’t wait to get crafting with you!

Knitting, Crochet, and Embroidery Classes!

I haven’t organized my own class schedule in nearly 4 years. I got away from it because I moved to Minneapolis for a couple years and focused my attention on designing more, but now that I’m back in Chicago there is no reason not to get teaching again, and I couldn’t be more excited to get back into the swing of things.

I’m starting small, and with help. My friend and fellow designer Laura McDougal will be teaching Beginner Knitting and Next Step Knitting, while I’ll be taking Beginner Crochet and Beginner Embroidery. We’ll both be there to help with Group Knitting classes.

Laura McDougal has been a life-long crafty lady. She’s dabbled in everything from embroidery during her Girl Scout days to basket weaving as a summer camp counselor. Knitting has been her primary focus for the last 8 years. She’s learned a lot along the way and can’t wait to share it with you! You can follow her latest adventures at www.doogknits.com.

Each class will be maxing out at between 5-8 students except for Group Knitting which will be full at 10. All classes are held at Starbucks at Lincoln and Wilson unless otherwise noted. To sign up or to ask any questions please email allyson@thesweatshopoflove.com.

I’m so excited to get back to teaching! And we can’t wait to craft with you soon.

Me at No Coast Minneapolis

So what is with this insane sale? I’m celebrating my retirement from craft shows. After Renegade Chicago this year I decided that craft shows are just not for me. They are a ton of work, not to mention all the work that goes into them before you even get to the show, and for a knitwear designer and knitter like me, it’s just not worth it. And I’ve still got a lot of inventory that I’d love to find homes for.

And I’m always looking for a way to get more people my patterns. So go out and get everyone on your list a knitting kit or piece of knit jewelry! This sale ends Friday night at midnight.

The Last of the Group Knitting Classes, Advanced Embroidery Class, and our Holiday Party!
