Away Message

ShaneandAllysonWedding.8

A year ago I married this joker! While we still like each other we’re going to do as much traveling as possible, so at this very moment we’re in flight to Barcelona. Then we’re hitting Rome! Florence! Malaga Spain! And, weirdly, Zurich.

Keep an eye on my instagram to keep up with us, or just pop back here in early October for pics.

Enjoy your September knitters! I’ll be back Sept 30th.

Mishigami KAL: Let’s Talk Yarn!

KAL Kicks off on Oct 5th!

KAL Kicks off on Oct 5th!

I’m SO EXCITED to start thinking about casting on Jennifer Beaumont’s Mishigami Pullover from Midwestern Knits! I’m hosting the knit along for this sweater, which kicks off on October 5th. Joining us? Check in at the Mishigami Pullover KAL Forum!

This seriously beautiful sweater is knit up in The Plucky Knitter, Plucky Single, 80% merino wool, 20% silk; 430 yards/skein. It’s freaking GORGEOUS yarn, and clearly it’s worth splurging on because our cover sweater is stunning.

Let’s pretend we make like $24K a year (ahem) and need to substitute to a more affordable option. I’m looking at Knit Picks Gloss Fingering, one of my go to yarns for it’s really lovely feel and wear. I’ve picked out 3 color combos I like, using Robot as the top CC1 color and Hawk as the bottom CC5 color:

Warm Fall, in order top to bottom this is Robot (CC1), Honey (CC2), Masala (CC3), Cranberry (CC4), and Hawk (CC5):

Purples, which again top to bottom is Robot (CC1), Velveteen (CC2), Bordeaux (CC3), Blackberry (CC4), and Hawk (CC5).

And a Play on Teal, which is Robot (CC1), Honey (CC2), Kenai (CC3), Midnight (CC4), and Robot (CC5).

What do you think?! And are any of these color combinations calling to you?

I’ll be making the 34″ bust size – I’d probably have chosen the 37″ size, since my bust is about 37 1/2″, but I’ve worn the Midwestern Knits sample a LOT and it’s absolutely perfect so I’m sticking with it! Jennifer’s stitch pattern is very stretchy, so I’d size down for a perfect fit.

Gloss Fingering has 220 yards a skein, so I’ll be ordering 1 CC1, and 2 each of the other colors. For your reference, here are the yardage requirements and sample Plucky Knitter colors:

Color 1: Wintry Mix, 1 skein or 78 (119, 130, 142, 163, 201, 227) yards
Color 2: Thank you Note, 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) skein(s) or 258 (304, 334, 364, 418, 516, 584) yards
Color 3: Social Grace, 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) skein(s) or 316 (373, 410, 447, 513, 634, 717) yards
Color 4: Heritage Hill, 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) skein(s) or 253 (300, 329, 359, 411, 508, 575) yards
Color 5: Table Setting, 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2) skein(s) or 206 (243, 267, 291, 334, 412, 467) yards

I’m going to think it over and get my yarn ordered on Monday. I can’t wait! Thanks for helping me choose!

Minnesota Vacation! State Fair & Lots of Beer

Thursday Miss Laura McDougal of DoogKnits and I jumped on the Megabus and headed north to Minnesota. It had been SO LONG since I had been there – I’m sure you all remember my years going back and forth between Chicago and Minneapolis, then my eventual return to Chicago 2 summers ago. I really miss Minneapolis, and this weekend really brought that home!

This is how Laura and I traveled all weekend! So much yarn between us.

Early Morning at the Fair!

Early Morning at the Fair!

After getting some drinks Thursday night (you know, to shake off that Megabus!), we were up EARLY to head to the Minnesota State Fair! This was Laura’s first fair, but my fair exploits have been well documented – 201120102009.

Cheers!

Cheers!

Here me and Laura, plus Lily, her fiancee Scott, and of course PT, cookie cheers outside of Sweet Martha’s. These were only 1000 of the 10000 calories we happily consumed at the fair!

BEERS

BEERS

And after the fair these were just some of the very many beers we needed to cool off.

Breakfast of Champions

Breakfast of Champions

You might think that after all that we’d take a break from eating fried foods, but you’d be wrong! We breakfasted before going to the Mall of America (DUH), and walking around, taking in this great city I still wish I lived in.

The bus ride home was a little nap filled, but I made some fair isle progress so it wasn’t a total loss! I think we totally sold Laura on Minneapolis, I gained 10 pounds, and 2 days later am still super tired. Sign of a great long weekend vacation, right?!
