FO: Cafe au Lait Cardi for the #HKKAL15!

This FO has been a LONG time coming! I cast on nearly 3 months ago, at the start of the Holla Knits Knit Along. I’ve been working on it here and there between projects ever since. But the KAL ends Friday so I knew I had to buckle down and finish!

Cafe au Lait - YAY!

Cafe au Lait – YAY!

And finish I did! I couldn’t be happier with the mods I made – and I was really going back and forth about it.

So Pretty!

So Pretty!

I ended up pretty much following the smallest size directions exactly. I was talking about lengthening the sleeves, following the larger size for the width, blah blah. But while I was knitting I was trying to think about exactly what this sweater would be used for, and it would be worn over a tank on a mostly super hot day. It didn’t need longer sleeves! It didn’t really need anything messed with.

Such Pretty Sleeves!

Such Pretty Sleeves!

The sleeve length ended up being perfect just as is – I actually didn’t even add the few rows of rib to the ends of the sleeves because I loved that raw edge.

Perfect Length!

Perfect Length!

And the length is spot on. I only did 7 repeats of the pattern instead of 12 like the pattern suggested, and it’s exactly where I want it. Not cropped, just a regular length that hits me just above my hip.

Showing Off The Tiny Fronts!

Showing Off The Tiny Fronts!

I found some fake wooden buttons – I knew I wouldn’t be buttoning the sweater up too much so they didn’t really matter. But they add a really nice touch!

Such a Beautiful Stitch Pattern

Such a Beautiful Stitch Pattern

I know I’ll be wearing this sweater all summer long. It’s airy and light while still offering some coverage and protection from the sun.

And it ended up only taking 4 skeins! So this sucker clocks in as a $18 sweater. Not too shabby!

New Downloadable Class: 5 Knitted Headbands!

Last month I shared with you my Knitted Baby Sweaters class, now available for download or dvd purchase, last week I shared my Mosaic Knit Leg Warmers class, and today it’s 5 Knitted Headbands!

This class features my Twin Cities Headband pattern, as well as my Quartet of Headbands patterns. They’re all cute, and each little project highlights a different technique, so you’re getting a ton of lessons in this one class.

Here is the description from Interweave:

In 5 Knitted Headbands: Learn Eyelets, i-Cord, and Ruffles, join instructor and designer Allyson Dykhuizen to create a whole set of stylish accessories to spice up your spring and summer wardrobe or give as gifts.

Headbands are great, low-commitment projects that not only use up extra stash yarn but are perfect for learning useful techniques such as simple eyelet lace, i-cord, and creating a bow from a flat piece of fabric. Once you’ve mastered these 5 adorable headbands, you can use the stitch patterns you’ve learned to design your own new headband pattern, make a smaller headband for a child, or knit one in every color to suit your own personal style. Headband patterns are included!

Fun right? Check out the full description and get more info about the class here.
