And – BRACE YOURSELVES – it’s freaking adorable.
This was a lot of dress to put together! Like I said last week, I spent like 5 hours putting together the pdf pattern and cutting out the pieces, and I started working on sewing yesterday at about 1pm, and didn’t finish until after 10pm. It was a grind!
I just really took my time with it! I had no idea what I was doing most of the time, and read and reread every word Jen was saying in her step by step sew along she’s hosting, which was a real lifesaver. I feel like I grew so much as a sewing stitching this dress up! I have a lot more confidence as a sewer now.
What’s funny is that I can’t wait to make another dress! Jen is going to go into variations, and I just want to keep making this thing until my whole wardrobe is Alder Shirtdresses.
I made myself a size 10 because my bust is just a tiny bit under 37″. The size 10 finished measurement is 38 1/4″, so I thought having just over an inch of positive ease would be the way to go. The dress turned out a little bit big, which I like for this dress because it makes it even easier and breezier, but for the next one I make I’m going to go down to a size 8, just to see what happens.
But basically I just love the shit out of this dress! I can’t wait to scamper around in it forever. With a cardigan I think it will take me deep into fall. Which is great because I don’t think I’ll get back to sewing any time soon, sadly. I’m already dreaming of the next fabric choice, though!Pin It
