I’ve knit a lot this year. More than I’ve ever knit before! For Holla Knits, for me, for a collection coming out next year. Something like 22 garments, and nearly that many accessories, and we’re only 9 months into the year. Am I burned out? Not at all. My ravelry queue is teaming, and with all this design work I’ve been doing I’m so excited to start knitting someone else’s pattern!
But my poor arms are tired. I’m working through a few accessories for the Holla Knits Accessories Collection that comes out in a couple weeks, and I’ve been spreading them out. When I use to be able to knit for 12-16 hours a day, I’ve been keeping it to half that, with frequent breaks. I’ve been stretching more, been wearing my support gloves, been using pain cream. My wrists are just tired!
So I’m going to give them a break. I’ve got one more project to finish for Holla Knits, and I’ll have to do a little knitting while I film my how to videos for this collection, and after that I’m not knitting again until November. It will be the longest time I’ve ever gone without knitting since I first learned in 2001!
But that does not mean I’ll be taking a break from you, dear blog! I’ve got a boat load of projects saved up in my DIY pinterest board, and in my heart, that I’ve been forsaking for all of my working. I’ve also ok’ed crocheting! So I’m planning on dusting off my sewing machine, pulling out my hot glue gun, organizing my fabric stash and my DMC embroidery floss collection! Also, I might pick up a book and READ! I might, like, nap, at some point. I’m going to cook a lot and my house is going to be clean! The sky is the limit!
I’ve got two projects going already! First up is my Mr Darcy Counted Cross Stitch pattern kit I got for Christmas! I’m also working on some curtains for our new apartment. Fun right?! It’s like a craft-cation!
So get ready for some crafting fun. Fingers crossed that after this 6 week break from knitting my wrists will feel better, and then I can get back to being an insanely focused ridiculous knitting worker.

It’s wise of you to take a break before you do permanent damage to your body. I hope that this helps your body to heal! If you aren’t already taking NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Aleve) you might consider a regimen of them to help relieve the inflammation.
A few years back I gave myself a pretty severe case of tendinitis in my right arm and shoulder thanks to a sweater patterned with twisted and traveling stitches. I was out of commission for most of a year and it sucked, to put it lightly. I still can’t really do much in the way of twisted stitches and cabling because the movement causes pain and fatigue. I’m telling you this as a cautionary tale, sure, but also to sympathize with what you’re going through.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with while you aren’t knitting!

Thanks so much Jess! It’s super dangerous, and I know a lot of knitters have real problems. I’m glad your wrists are getting better! And I know you are right about the ibuprofen. I’ve got to get better about using it! Thanks so much for your comment!

Wow for you to say you have knit more than ever before is really saying something! Glad you are giving you wrists a break soon. A craft-cation sounds like the best vacation ever!!
I need to organize my room so I can even find something to craft. I really need to get on too Pintrest although I am a little afraid.
