My friend Theresa VanderMeer runs an organization called The Lotus Odyssey that exports fair-trade products from different eco/people-friendly groups in India. She is starting a foundation called WORK+SHELTER that will offer women living in the slums of New Delhi a fresh start. Theresa is working to give these women decent living conditions and a chance to build a better future. WORK+SHELTER will be a safe place where women can come with their children to live and work. She will be providing training, materials, and a fair wage, and members of WORK+SHELTER will be producing products to be sold in boutiques around the world.
Theresa asked me to design garments and accessories that will be hand knit by the women living and working at WORK+SHELTER. This corner to corner wrap is one of those items! By purchasing this pattern you are helping this amazing cause. Read more about this project here, donate by emailing Theresa, and when someone compliments you on your wrap, be sure to tell them about WORK+SHELTER.

I’m so sorry you are having trouble. If you are doing a yarn over to a purl, you have to make sure you yarn over the entire needle, not just pull your yarn to the front like for a normal switch from knit to purl. You think that could have something to do with why you are having trouble?

I just completed this shawl as a prayer shawl for my sister. I did everything according to the pattern and have lots of experience with corner-to-corner knitting, but I could not get the corners to line up, no matter how much I blocked them. The rounded ends would not hold the corner & the whole thing is on a slant, like a piece of fabric that needs to be straightened. Can you tell me what I did wrong? I am so disappointed with the end result.
Thank you.

Hi Katherine,
I’m so sorry that your wrap didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. If you followed the pattern perfectly I can’t imagine what went wrong with it, since so many of the wraps turned out perfectly and as expected. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it has something to do with the yarn you used. Maybe it didn’t have as much give as the yarn that has been used in the samples and FO so far. Or if you used smaller needles the knit fabric might not have had as much give.
I’m so sorry again that you are unhappy! Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Allyson, I purchased “the Corner to corner wrap” in the summer. Just got it out to start knitting one and I don’t have the first page of the pattern. I checked my down load file and it isn’t in the pattern.. My pattern starts with. next row (RS): seed St to marker, slip marker, YO, K to 3 sts from next marker, K3tog tbl, YO, slip marker, Seed St to end. Don’t know what happened, but could I somehow get a copy of what would be page 2 of your printout?

Hi Barbara! I just shot you an email with the pattern. Please let me know if you don’t receive it or have any other questions!

I am making this Corner to Corner wrap and at the first corner, after you have 63 stitches, the pattern says ‘Work another row 17,
Next Row (RS): Seed St to marker, slip marker, YO, K to 3 sts from next marker, K3tog tbl, YO, slip marker, Seed St to end.
Next Row (WS): Seed St to marker, slip marker, purl to next marker, slip marker, Seed St to end.’
The problem I have, is this next ‘k3tog tbl’ causes this corner to begin shaping, and yet in the seed stitch border a corner is not formed. So it appears that the wrap will not be shaped like a rectangle.
Am I reading the pattern incorrectly?
Is it possible to see a photo of the complete wrap?
Thank you

Hi Debby,
I’m so sorry you are having trouble! That action is actually shaping the corner. When you are finished with the wrap it is kind of like a parallelogram, and you block it out to become a rectangle. It works! I promise!
Please let me know if you are still having trouble picturing it. I don’t have my computer today, but I can search for a clearer picture of how this works tomorrow, if you need it.
Thanks so much,
Allyson
