I haven’t picked up a crochet hook since finishing my Amigurumi family I made for Christmas. Until now!
What is it with gifts that I turn to crochet?
My friends Jamie (of Jamiegurumi) and Diana (Tremble Tremble!) are getting married in May, and I’m making them an afghan. I love making things for the home as wedding presents and I usually stick to blankets and pillows.
Knitting a blanket, though, is the wost thing ever, so a standard zig zag afghan pattern is a perfect go to.
This pattern is Zig-Zag ‘Ghan, and I didn’t even notice that it had different size zigs and zags before starting it. I changed the colors the pattern calls for to more gender neutrals, and I think it’s turning out really well! This is 1 color pattern repeat, and there are 5 pattern repeats to make the blanket.
I went with Red Heart Super Savor yarn. It’s pretty much the lowest of the low quality acrylic yarns, but it’s my favorite yarn to use for blankets. It’s sturdy and holds it’s shape, when you spill on it you can just throw it in the washer. They’ve got a ton of colors to choose from and it’s cheap! This blanket takes almost 3,000 yards of yarn. Any way you slice it you are spending a ton of money on yarn when you make a blanket, so you might as well make a blanket that will last, and won’t make you cry when it gets chewed on by a dog.
I expect this to be a WIP for a long time, it being a blanket and all. Their wedding isn’t until May 7th so I’ve got some time.
More progress pics to come!

I love crocheted zigzag afghans! Its been ages since I made one! Have fun and post more pics!

OH MY GOSH I love the colors.
you are making me want to dig out some crochet hooks.
my boss just brought in a zig zag afgan someone made for her years ago…to show us “knitters”
I like crochet sometimes. It’s easier to rip it back! haha
(and you don’t have to cast on like a billion stitches!)

Hooray for Crochet! I thought a ripple and a zig zig were bout the same, now I know its not…..thanks.
I’m thinking of doing an Attic24-type ripple for Charlotte, so she can take it Camp/College/Adulthood. Not a portable project, though.
