With my class schedule coming out this week I’ve been busy at the computer more than anywhere, but I did manage to finish the front of my Beatnik!
I quick seamed up the shoulders to make sure the fit was working for me, and it totally is! Could it look any better?!
Well, maybe if there weren’t all those yarn strands coming off it. But I really just threw it on and took some pics! It fits amazing.
As you can see, I should have cleaned my bathroom mirror before taking these shots! Eh.
Because I’m knitting Beatnik it a much smaller gauge I needed to extend my front shoulders longer to match the back measurements. But so far I’m pretty sure that is the only real big modification I’ve needed to make with the pattern.
This makes me even more excited to finish! It fits like a glove and is GORGEOUS! I want it now!
So, my KAL-ers, how are your Beatniks coming?!
My friend Rachael had me for The Sweatshop of Love’s knitting Secret Santa this year and she put together a huge goodie bag full of amazing things. She was WAY too nice to me! In the bag was the materials for Spick and Spats, a pattern that has been in my queue for ages. I got started on them this week and the pattern is making me crazy.
Just look at the picture on the pattern.
Spick and Spats
Super cute, right? So you start with the picot edging on straight needles, then when you hit the ribbing you start working it in the round on dpns.
Then I read: Rows 28-59: Begin baby cable ribbing…
Cables?
I look at the picture.
I look at my pattern.
I look at the picture.
The cables are on the INSIDE of the fold. So you can’t see them if you wear the spats folded like they are in the picture.
So I pulled it and fixed the pattern. What is the point of putting cables on the inside of your damn fold?! They are meant to FOLD, right? You want to see the cables, right?! GD.
I’m going to finish these bad boys up with full modification instructions tomorrow.
And I have to show off the beautiful fabric covered buttons Rachael made for me to put on them! They are going to be so darn cute.
I’m also working on some Valentines for some special ladies in my life, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise by posting pics, so look for those next week.
What are you guys working on?!

Awesome! Thanks for the shout out. I love that you changed the pattern – they look way cooler with the cables on the outside!!!

Yes, the Beatnik fits perfect! Congrats on your pattern modification voodoo magic. No, I don’t think you should have cleaned your bathroom mirror. Those spats are amazing. I haven’t seen anything like them before.

oh my gosh Allyson, your Beatnik is turning out LOVELY.
(jealous)
I have been still crying the blues and knitting hats and trying to re-coup the cost of the yarn I bought for my mess.
I can’t wait to see how everyone’s sweaters turn out.
