It occurred to me last week that if I don’t finish PT’s Christmas present while he was still living in New York, I was going to have a really hard time finishing it without him seeing me work on it, since we are going to be together in Chicago, together in Michigan for Thanksgiving, and then mostly together in December between Chicago and Minnesota.
I skipped a few steps in my blogging about this sweater, since now that I’m looking I only shared my head start on the body a month ago, but that is probably because it was such a smooth knit!
My only modification was to knit the front and back together at the same time, then splitting at the armholes. Other than that I didn’t change a thing. I didn’t have any of PT’s clothes in my house to measure the sweater against, so I trusted the pattern’s sizing, sticking with it’s smallest size for all instructions, and just went to town.
The only problems I came across were my own – I don’t think I ever came up with the number of stitches the pattern told me I should have at any point in the sweater, but I always just assume that is my lack of diligent counting.
And I’m in love with this collar. It crossed my mind to make the collar a rib, but I’m so glad I didn’t. I’m in love with the contrast between this lovely diagonal rib stitch pattern throughout the sweater and the garder stitch collar. It’s sophisticated but looks so relaxed and wearable.
This is a PRE-FO because I didn’t have a chance to block it. I finished putting it together late Friday night and PT was due to land in Chicago Saturday night. There was no way I could find a place to lay this sweater out to block without him seeing it, so it will just have to hide away until I can string a few PT-less days together for blocking.
But that is another Christmas present finished! Or, like 99% finished! Feeling the knitting pressure yet?!
Pattern: Dawson Sweater
Yarn: Knit Picks Merino Style in Fedora, 11 1/2 skeins, for size small
Needles: Size 6 circulars, size 4 circulars used just for collar

so good looking!
